THE EXHIBITION-CONVERSATION, EXHIBITION-COMMEMORATION, EXHIBITION-HOLIDAY, EXHIBITION-PLEASURE LASTED ONE DAY
Maslenitsa (The first day of spring. In the folk calendar the holiday marks the border between winter and spring).
The exhibition-conversation, exhibition-commemoration, exhibition-holiday, exhibition-pleasure lasted one day.
Using various mediums, we interpreted a lot of things that worried us: provincialism (which can be enjoyed), borderlines of pleasure, the role of spectator and artist, aesthetics of disgust and ... global warming.
Entrance into space is preceded by collective text - the “Manifesto of the Fat Way”
In the center of the hall: a table for the feast, pancakes baked by different artists are on the table. Spectators enjoy pancakes during the whole event. Pancakes are placed around the aquarium. Penguin stands inside it on icebergs of frozen fat, icebergs slowly melt during the holiday.
Near the central wall there is an altar . The construction is crowned by a Maslenitsa-venus molded from dough (with 6 hands) and baked in the oven. On the left and on the right of the altar there are offerings: food photos from festive feasts sent by request of the authors this exhibition. Next to the altar is a fabric collage with wolves and carnations.
Black and White photographs hanged on the walls. There are portraits of “followers of the Fat Way”: members of the collective “no excuse” and their friends, acquaintances, without their consent included in the project.
Viewers are encouraged to add or colorize portraits (cans of paint and brushes stands along the walls).
In a separate dark room there is broadcast of the video. Shots include a rite of passage in a sect, where members of the collective cover themselves with low-quality and simplified fat (Mayonnaise).
Plants are an integral part of the exhibition: artificial or living, they come and sprout even from snowdrifts.
A feast with pancakes and a creative act of modifying photos by viewers ends with a rave round dance.
